Gilbert Head, MD was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa where he graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. He attended Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa, and earned his medical degree at the University of Iowa College of Medicine. He completed his family practice residency training at St. Lukeʼs and Mercy Hospitals in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 1983, Dr. Head started this clinic in Millard. Still at the original location, the practice has grown and evolved through the years. He is proud to have cared for multiple generations of many families during this time.
Dr. Head is Board Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and a Diplomate in the American Academy of Family Physicians. He has volunteered his time extensively in the community, including more that 20 years of service on the Millard Schools Health Advisory Board and as Medical Director of the Gretna Fire and Rescue Department. He has served as Medical Staff President for Midlands Community Hospital and has also been a long time member of UniNet Physician/HospitalOrganizationʼs leadership teams.
Dr. Head has received many honors, including the Achievement of Recognition for Delivery of Quality Diabetes Care from the American Diabetes Association and the National Committee for Quality Assurance. He has been the lead investigator on numerous research projects.
Dr. Head and his wife have 3 adult children.
